As a global on-demand private jet charter company headquartered in Abu Dhabi, we always follow political and macro-economic trends very closely. Regarding the recent Autumn budget in the UK, we are unsurprised to see that private jets have been targeted given the significance of tax rises across multiple sectors.

In fact, we are glad to see the UK Government investing in Green Hydrogen and Carbon Capture because in order to decarbonise aviation, a new e-SAF sector is needed, which requires these technologies.

After analysing the budget and understanding what this will mean for our UHNWI clients, we believe that ultimately the APD increase will have very little impact. 78% of Victor’s private jet charter bookings departing the UK are below 2,000 miles (i.e. within Europe), of which fewer than 1% are on aircraft weighing over 20 tonnes (the higher rate). We therefore believe the impact of the APD on the end customer will be negligible.

Below is a breakdown of the various brackets imposed by the government. It is important to note that these only apply to flights departing the UK and will only come into effect on April 1st 2026.

Below we have offered some transparent insight that showcases how pricing will be affected by the APD increase:

BAND A 

Example: London, Biggin Hill – Paphos, Cyprus (Circa. 1,715 nautical miles) 

On a super midsize aircraft, such as a Citation Sovereign (weighing approx. 8 tonnes), travelling one way with 3 passengers, the current on-demand price would be c.£29,000. With a £32 increase per passenger (Standard Rate), this results in an extra £96 overall – 0.33% price increase. 

BAND B 

Example: London, Biggin Hill – Dubai, UAE (Circa. 2,955 nautical miles) 

On a heavy jet such as a Legacy 600 (weighing approx. 16 tonnes), travelling one way with 3 passengers, the current on-demand price would be c.£55,000. With a £244 increase per passenger (Standard Rate), this results in an extra £732 – 1.33% price increase.

BAND C 

Biggin Hill – Kuala Lumpur (Circa. 5,500 nautical miles)

On an ultra-long-range aircraft such as a Global 7500 (over 20 tonnes) travelling one way with 3 passengers, the current on-demand price would be c. £190,000. With a £1,141 increase per passenger (Higher Rate), this results in an extra £3,423 – 1.80% price increase.

Interestingly, over the past 2.5 years, more than 500 of our clients have voluntarily chosen to pay an additional c. £1,000 on SAF in order to reduce the lifecycle carbon emissions of their jet charter bookings. Couple this with the increases we have seen post-pandemic through inflation, this suggests it is unlikely that these relatively small price increases will deter regular private jet flyers.

While the autumn budget means very marginal price increases for our clients, the other tax increases such as National Insurance, Capital Gains Tax and private school fees are likely to be of far greater concern to UHNWIs.

London is also excellently connected with the whole globe thanks to its airports, excellent stopovers suitable for every need. London City Airport (LCY), Luton Airport (LTN), Farnborough Airport, and London Biggin Hill are the airports that are generally used the most in general aviation with PrivateJets for passenger flights.
Let’s make it clear from the outset that, in PrivateJetFinder’s experience, Biggin Hill is the best airport for arriving at or departing from London aboard a Private Jet; in this paragraph we will specify the reasons why this airport is preferred over other airports in the English capital.

London City

London City Airport (LCY) is the closest airport to the center of the city of London, but for this very reason it has some drawbacks, especially with regard to aircraft noise limits; in addition, the type of runways is not particularly suitable for some operators who operate private aircraft.

Removing ice on the wings is an essential action to ensure flight safety, as its presence can compromise the aerodynamic properties of the aircraft, making takeoff unsafe. In this article we will explain the importance of private jet wing de-icing operations. These procedures are part of safety protocols for private and commercial flights, and are required prior to takeoff in bad weather conditions.

Ice formation on the wings of private jets

Ice can form on the external surfaces of a private jet when it is on the ground or during takeoff in adverse weather conditions.
If the temperature drops below freezing, in fact, moisture in the air tends to freeze on contact with the surfaces of the aircraft, creating a thin but problematic layer of ice.
This phenomenon is common when the plane is parked outdoors overnight at airports located in regions with cold and humid climates. ( e.g. Oslo, Copenhagen, Edinburgh, Vienna, Venice). The simplest and most effective solution to prevent icing would be to park the private jet inside a heated or enclosed hangar.
It would prevent the plane’s exposure to the elements by keeping the surfaces dry.
Alternatively, some private jet operators use protective covers for the wings and engines when the aircraft is parked outdoors in the cold.
These covers should prevent the accumulation of snow and ice on critical aircraft surfaces, but they are not always sufficient.

Dangers of ice on the wings and tail of private jets

The ice layer increases drag by reducing proper airflow that allows the plane to gain altitude and maintain control.
In addition, the extra weight can create additional problems.
If ice is not properly removed from the wings and tail, it could seriously affect the performance of your private jet, especially during a critical time of flight such as the takeoff phase.

Wing de-icing before departure

Before takeoff, the aircraft is inspected for ice, snow or frost.
If necessary, de-icing and ice prevention operations are initiated on the wings. 1) Wing de-icing before takeoff.
If ice is detected, the de-icing procedure using Type I heated glycol-based fluids will be initiated to maximize its effectiveness.
This is sprayed directly onto the aircraft to melt the ice and prevent further accumulation in the immediate area.
The glycol-based compound should be applied to aircraft parts just before departure since its protection is temporary. 2) Anti-icing treatment.
After de-icing, a Type II or Type IV (thicker) anti-icing fluid is applied, which forms a protective barrier to prevent the formation of new ice during takeoff.
These fluids remain on the surfaces until the aircraft’s speed is sufficient for them to slide off without compromising aerodynamics. 3) Final check before takeoff.
